Zolani Siphungela was born in 1983 in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. From 2007 to 2009 he attended the Walter Sisulu University in East London where he studied towards a diploma in fine art. In 2010 he moved to Cape Town and in 2011 became the second recipient of the Worldart artist’s residency programme which culminated in his first solo exhibition titled Angels with dirty faces at the Worldart gallery. His subject matter centres around a deep personal conscience and awareness of the social, political and cultural reality as he experiences it on a daily bases.Siphungela works primarily with oil paints on canvas. He is also proficient in the art of print making and has works at the SA Print Gallery. His work has recently been included in the Ellerman House Contemporary Art Collection in Cape Town owned by collector Paul Harris.
